Back to Books & Zines
On New Year's Eve we got out the art supplies and made some zines. I was inspired by a program our local library was hosting called Resolutions & Reflections Zines. They put together the sweetest little zine-making kits that you could pick up at a local branch. Mine had scrapbooking paper, washi tape, a hole punch, binding cord, stickers, an old Martha Stewart Living magazine, markers, a glue stick and a sheet with a brief history of zines and some instructions. Our library is so good.
Clark opted for a full page, side stapled format while I went with a classic folded mini zine from a single 8.5x11. I sat around in my pajamas cutting things out of magazines, listening to a Spotify NYE mix that was decidedly not fully appropriate for my five-year-old companion and I had a blast.
It's just a funny little zine with some ideas for the new year. The best part of making it was how completely unnecessary it was, like absolutely 100% nonessential to spend time to make a small book that I will flip through a few times this week and then put aside somewhere. Delight!
2022 is hereby the year of the zine, let's make them often and trade them and send them as birthday presents. (Here's a good link about zines, btw.)
Arms around each other's shoulders, walking ahead into a new year, tired but steady. Held & loved.
Might make a weird quilt.
"Ok... you got me." Just want to ride by bike and write little stories and support mutual aid funds and go to bed early.
More plants, art, cake, walks, memes.
Should we get a landline & talk on the phone more? "Not really my thing."
Thinking about doing some Sunday chores on Saturday instead so we can end the weekend with more fun.
"Well, do you like personality tests?"
